From ad-hoc integration to the „Total Integrator“

Depending on the specific use case, varying integrations of AixBOMS tools, information, views, rules, and analyses into a user's familiar working environment are required (or vice versa). For example, a web-based UHD tool can obtain further information about the caller via a web browser and incorporate it into the ticket. A company with many internally developed programmes may wish to integrate AixBOMS functions into them. This could include, for instance, assigning an IP address for a new customer or checking their system requirements for software distribution.

 

Our AixBOMS database is a CMDB. Damit fungiert sie gemäß ITIL als Datendepot für angeschlossene Systeme und ITIL-Prozesse. Bei ITIL geht es um das IT Configuration Management, wobei die davon betroffenen Services ebenfalls über die CMDB verwaltet werden. Als Depot für Daten aus unterschiedlichsten Quellen muss zwangsläufig eine Integrationsschicht existieren, die die Daten „übersetzt“ und ggf. regelmäßig in der CMDB updatet. Beide Vorgänge sind nicht trivial. Ein Hauptproblem ist zum Beispiel die Identifizierung von zugehörigen Informationsbereichen aus mehreren Quellen: Ein Warenkatalog bietet einen Laptop an und hat dafür eine Produktnummer. Der Kunde kauft mehrere davon und benötigt jeweils eine eigene ID. Nun werden für einige dieser Laptops externe CD-Laufwerke und zusätzliche Monitore bei jeweils anderen Händlern gekauft. Diese Informationen mit unterschiedlichsten Produktnummern einer Komponenten zuzuordnen erfordert schon ein Integrationskonzept. Und das ist erst der Anfang …

 

Our AixBOMS database is even an Advanced CMDB, because it can do more than ITIL demands. It is not a passive documentation system, but rather

• takes control of third-party systems,
• provides CMDB-based functional modules for various purposes in IT service and infrastructure management and data centre management and
• last but not least, in addition to various integration options, it features an intelligent data integrator that efficiently stores almost all data sources in the AixBOMS CMDB, also on a regular basis as needed, so that they are available there for holistic management.
