Depending on the specific use case, varying integrations of AixBOMS tools, information, views, rules, and analyses into a user's familiar working environment are required (or vice versa). For example, a web-based UHD tool can obtain further information about the caller via a web browser and incorporate it into the ticket. A company with many internally developed programmes may wish to integrate AixBOMS functions into them. This could include, for instance, assigning an IP address for a new customer or checking their system requirements for software distribution.
Our AixBOMS database is a CMDB. This means that according to ITIL, it functions as a data repository for connected systems and ITIL processes. ITIL is concerned with IT Configuration Management, whereby the affected services are also managed via the CMDB. As a repository for data from the most varied of sources, an integration layer must necessarily exist, which „translates“ the data and, if necessary, regularly updates the CMDB. Both processes are not trivial. A main problem, for example, is the identification of related information areas from multiple sources: A product catalogue offers a laptop and has a product number for it. The customer buys several of these and each requires its own ID. Now, external CD drives and additional monitors are purchased for some of these laptops from different retailers. Assigning this information with the most varied of product numbers of a component naturally requires an integration concept. And that's just the beginning...
Our AixBOMS database is even an Advanced CMDB, because it can do more than ITIL demands. It is not a passive documentation system, but rather
- takes control of third-party systems,
- provides CMDB-based functional modules for various purposes in IT service and infrastructure management and data centre management and
- last but not least, in addition to various integration options, it features an intelligent data integrator that efficiently stores almost all data sources in the AixBOMS CMDB, also on a regular basis as needed, so that they are available there for holistic management.
