A „bespoke“ solution is indeed needed by SMEs – but:
- It should also be more cost-effective due to the smaller number of components and less functional depth: a modular, scalable software architecture is advantageous here.
- It should be quick to implement, immediately usable for specific business operations, and easy to operate for everyday tasks, as smaller companies often have a limited number of staff available for such duties.
- It should be future-proof, which in the IT business, which is so volatile, means manufacturer-neutral development and the use of (open-source) solutions that, due to their performance and broad acceptance, have virtually reached standard level (e.g. Java, ...).
- She should consider the latest technologies, standards, and trends, as SMEs are very keen to use them due to increased competitive pressure.
- A medium-sized enterprise must rely more on the results of reference installations and/or quality judgments from independent experts than investing in complex feasibility or market studies.
With AixBOMS, we offer a solution for the mid-sized business sector, which, from our perspective as software manufacturers, is not „our own“ but merely a consequence of our strategy of modularity, scalability, and openness (1) that we have pursued from the very beginning. For example, AixBOMS is scalable through various server classes, optional modules, as SMB (Small and Medium Business) and as the rental solution AixBOMS SaaS.
We also always use the same development core for our offerings for the mid-sized market, thus we can always guarantee the same up-to-dateness and quality, as our (large) customers have come to expect from us over the years (4). For this, we rely on open source such as Eclipse, Java, GMF and BIRT (3) and our AixBOMS fulfils more than ITIL requires.
To achieve rapid deployment within the company, we work with graphical editors in all management areas, clear views that suit the intended purpose, templates, and selection lists with suitable pre-selections. Through our simple integration interfaces, it is often possible to import existing data from Excel spreadsheets for initial population (2).
We maintain intensive contact with our customers and take criticism and suggestions from these circles seriously. Often, it is precisely these that provide the impetus for new developments, which we can also offer to a wider audience very quickly due to our holistic approach. At our roadshows, customers can exchange their experiences with each other, and interested parties gain a good impression of the use and operation of AixBOMS. We also face product comparisons and have often been awarded by independent experts in the past (5).
