How does AixBOMS differ from pure DDI tools?

Under DDI in a networking environment, the terms DNS Domain Name System, DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) and IPAM (IP Address Management) summarised.

AixBOMS and IPAM

Taking a closer look at the various DDI products on the market, it becomes clear that AixBOMS fundamentally differs from them in the IPAM sector. There are several reasons for this:

Wide range of applications

AixBOMS manages not only the pure network and address information, but also the configuration data of all equipment and the relationships to master data, such as people, contracts, organisations, cost centres, etc. All necessary details are taken into account down to the port level, as well as the requirements necessary for managing modern physical, logical, and virtual components.





Workflows and Reports

Furthermore, AixBOMS provides processing workflows for planning, setting up, managing, and releasing subnets, reservations, such as DHCP pools, or individual addresses. Reports provide information on the current usage of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, networks, or device landscapes.





Logical Information

In AixBOMS, logical information such as Accessgroups (network access groups) or VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks) can also be used. Furthermore, there is an organisation concept for large network structures and a template management system.





AixBOMS and DHCP

AixBOMS manages pools and address ranges for dynamic IP address assignment (DHCP). These can be passed to the DHCP server(s) either after advance planning, creation, or release. Another method is to populate DDI tools already in use at the customer's site via an interface.







AixBOMS and DNS

DNS information can also be read from AixBOMS for this purpose and passed to the DNS service. The reverse direction is also supported.
