The standard templates (standard process definitions) and the conceptual data model of AixBOMS are based on ITIL to support core IT processes. Mention should be made of the main areas of Configuration and Change Management with their demonstrated relationships to surrounding service and support processes.
However, a core problem arises from the question „What is an ITIL-compliant CMDB?“. Neither the de facto standard itself nor relevant product certifications provide a satisfactory answer (lots of process, few customer concerns).
So one is certainly glad today to have found uniform terminology and (process) standards; experience shows, however, that the shoe often pinches elsewhere.
Or: What good is an ITIL-compliant move of a server to a new data centre if neither the basic infrastructure requirements (such as space, air conditioning or power consumption) nor the connection prerequisites (such as conduit occupancy, network connections or addressing) can be checked in the CMDB?
There is no question about it: ITIL requirements must be met by the product. We are even of the opinion that they must be over-fulfilled, and it is not only for this reason that we refer to AixBOMS as an Advanced CMDB.
