What is so special about AixBOMS?

From network and cable documentation to the management of IT services and data centres

The foundations for AixBOMS were laid back in the 90s with its predecessor, CCM (ComConsult Communication Manager). Originally planned as a pure network and cable documentation system, it evolved into an advanced CMDB and an IT Infrastructure Management system for various areas of IT service and data centre management. Based on an open and object-oriented database model, a wide range of individual applications, each with its own focus, is now available, such as:

Business Service Management

Service topology with dependencies between infrastructure and services, impact analysis, and integration of contract information, …

Cable Management

Physical connection management with RackView (cabinet management) and Floor Plan (site and floor plans), planning and automation, …

Data Centre Management

Graphical data centre management, RackView (cabinet management) and Area Plan, utilisation optimisation and allocation plan, vulnerability analysis, Green IT, …

Connectivity Management

logical route management and service-based billing, alternative and optimised route searching, automated shunting orders, …

Networking and IPAM

Dual IPAM for IPv4 and IPv6 network structures, subnetting, address calculation, label concept, organisational networks, hostname generation, dual-stack, …

Common CMDB basis and overarching development concept for all applications

In addition to the CMDB base, the applications share a consistent development concept, which is evident in a uniform GUI on the one hand and in the interfaces between the applications on the other, enabling the exchange of shared information, such as master data. The object-oriented approach also makes it possible to make the respective methods for managing objects available to other disciplines. For instance, the appropriate operations can be applied to the displayed objects from a data centre plan: RackView for the management of the distribution cabinets, Connection analysis for the detailed consideration and processing of port assignments and physical connections and the Impact Analysis for the coupling of service dependencies from the BSM perspective with the physical information.

A well-thought-out data model for managing modern IT infrastructures and services

The database model has been optimised and adapted to changing customer requirements over the years. It allows for the hierarchical management and monitoring of complex IT components, virtual systems, and services, taking into account their dependency relationships and visually representing them in graphics tailored to the respective management focus. Service providers benefit from suitable editors and templates with the help of which they can assign object structures to their services down to the port level. This includes physical and virtual components and systems, connections, networks, and addresses, which serve as the basis for compliant billing of the associated services to the respective customer. AixBOMS already supports current trends in internet business such as IPv6, cloud, and much more.

The differentiated licensing model with costs on a CI (Configuration Item) basis, the leasing option SaaS (Software as a Service) and off-the-shelf solutions for SMBSmall and medium-sized businesses are considering the growing demands of companies with minimal implementation costs.

AixBOMS is developed using Eclipse®, a Java-based open-source tool, and therefore requires no paid add-on packages. Eclipse® is also easily integrable and widely used, making AixBOMS a future-proof investment.
